NO. 309.

My Lord,

440

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 26th September, 1919.

I have the honour to inform Your Lordship that it has been necessary to grant a short period of vacation leave to Mr. G. H. Wakeman, Crown Solicitor, on medical grounds, and tuat I have appointed Mr. Philip Jacks, Officer, to act as Crow Solicitor during Mr. Wakeman's

absenco.

Land

The return to England of Mr. F. B. Johnson, Assistent Land Officer, has already entailed on Mr. Jacks much overtime and though I have been able to obtain temporary assistence in the Land Office, his assumption of the duties of Crown Solicitor still leaves him considerable overtime to per-

-form.

3.

I should be glad, therefore, to have Your Lordship's covering authority for paying an allowance to Mr. Jacks at the rate of $100 per mensem from the date when lapsing pay became available in the Land Office, namely August 6th, until the return of the Crow Solicitor.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble servant,

Claud sever

Officer Administering the Goverment

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

VISCOUNT MILINER, G.O.B.,
